Teaching and Learning
The standard of teaching and learning in our school has been described as excellent by DENI inspectors. Teachers are highly motivated and sensitive to the needs of individual children. The teaching approaches used often challenge children to think for themselves, encouraging independent learning.
Children in Years 1-4 have access to two playrooms to encourage interactive learning. Our computer suite has 13 networked computers which are supported by laptops. In addition all classrooms have one networked computer and five classrooms are now equipped with interactive whiteboards which is part of a rolling programme. Year 7 children achieve well above the NI average within the IT accreditation scheme
Music plays a major role in our school with pupils having opportunity to play woodwind, strings, guitar and keyboards. We have a thriving school choir and orchestra, which perform for shows and different community events.
We offer a varying after-school programme with sports such as soccer, netball, mini-rugby and kwik cricket available. We also offer other activities such as chess, cookery, cycling proficiency, computers, plant science and many more. Children from Years 5-7 also learn to swim within a progressive learning programme.
